Green Day is an American rock band formed in 1986 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt. Drummer Tré Cool joined the band in 1990. The band's musical style is often described as punk rock, pop punk, and alternative rock.
Green Day achieved commercial success with their third album, Dookie (1994), which became a worldwide commercial success and spawned several hit singles, including "Longview", "Basket Case", and "When I Come Around". The album has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
The band has released a total of 13 studio albums, several of which have also been commercially successful, including American Idiot (2004), which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and sold over six million copies in the US alone. Other popular Green Day albums include Nimrod (1997), Warning (2000), and Revolution Radio (2016).
Green Day has won numerous awards, including five Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. The band is also known for their political activism and use of their platform to raise awareness and support for various issues.
